Huddersfield Music Society
Huddersfield Music Society (HMS) is a Registered Charity which was formed in 1918. It promotes seven high quality chamber music concerts from October to April each season. Concerts are held monthly on Monday evenings in St Paul’s Hall at the University of Huddersfield. HMS promotes performances by established professionals and newly emerging musicians. Some of the biggest names in classical music have performed for HMS in the last century, including pianists Solomon, Louis Kentner, Clifford Curzon, Angela Hewitt and Benjamin Grosvenor, singers such as Peter Pears (with Benjamin Britten), Kathleen Ferrier, Emma Kirkby with the Rose Consort of Viols, and Roderick Williams; instrumentalists including the Amadeus String Quartet, the Pražák, Ysaÿe and Takács String Quartets, the Lindsays and the Carducci Quartet. HMS is pleased to work with the Making Music organisation and with the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the City Music Foundation, and the Young Classical Artists Trust.
